oh baby...

6 months to 1 year. every book i read warned me that it would likely take 6 months to one year to concieve our first baby.

obviously, the books were not talking about craig and i.

assuming we had at least 6 months i didn't find it necessary to worry about keeping track of dates, cycles, or the like. since i wasn't keeping track of dates, it wasn't really obvious that i may be pregnant. since it wasn't really obvious that i may be pregnant (and the books said i had SIX MONTHS) i didn't expect the pregnancy test to show positive. and, since i didn't expect the pregnancy test to show positive i didn't figure i'd bother craig with what i assumed was just a mixture of curosity and my own special brand of paranoia.

i took the test, and went about my usual evening chores. i eventually wandered back to the test to see the negative result that would be waiting for me... but it wasn't negative. i checked, and re checked the instructions and the pictures just to be *sure* it was positive, and indeed, it was.

things are a bit of a blurr from this point on.

i wandered downstairs and told craig, although i can't remember what i said. (i'm sure it wasn't the poetic, romantic, just-the-right-thing that i'd planned in my daydreams.) he said something positive and encouraging, although i can't remember what he said. then, i sat and stared at the television for a while, without actually knowing what i was watching at all. a couple of hours later i used the 2nd test upstairs just to be sure. still positive.

oh goodness, i believe we're having a baby.
